The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s volleyball team has picked up University of Regina Cougars transfer Kiara Wilson. Originally from Dauphin, Man., she graduated from Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School in 2024 and played club volleyball for the Parkland Vipers Volleyball Club.
Wilson decided to train and red shirt with the Cougars this past season, allowing her to come into the Kodiaks program with full eligibility.
“When Kiara reached out, we were still looking for a good fit for the setter position, so we were excited to have a new option to consider,” says Kodiaks head coach Anna Schwark. “Seeing she was a transfer was obviously a bonus, and we felt she could fit in with our team in terms of succession and add to the competition in that position.”
After sending game film and speaking with Kodiaks coaches, Wilson says she was happy to sign with the team. “I thought the environment, culture and everyone was all very positive, and I liked that in the team,” she says.
Wilson joins the Kodiaks with good ball placement, and she has also shown to be an effective decision maker when running offence.
“Kiara is going to be essential in fine tuning our pace and placement of second contacts,” says Schwark. “Our trio of setters seems to compete in a very healthy manner, so I know that Kiara is positively impacting our training and pushing her fellow setters to be the best they can be as well.”
Wilson says she’s excited to be in Lethbridge with her teammates and is ready to start the regular season. She is currently enrolled in the General Arts and Science – Health Sciences program.
The Kodiaks women’s volleyball team will start their 2025-26 campaign at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 against Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
