The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s volleyball team has signed Jorja Hamilton to its roster for the upcoming season. The Meadow Lake, Sask. native recently graduated from Carpenter High School.
Hamilton competed with the Rustlers Volleyball Club as an outside attacker and was honoured as their Female Athlete of the Year this past season.
With her sights set on a program outside of her home province, Hamilton says she saw potential in the Kodiaks rebuild and reached out to the team.
As part of the recruiting process, Kodiaks coaching staff watched Hamilton’s highlight reels and game play, making note of her skill level and the energy she brings to the court.
“Jorja is definitely a competitor and stays aggressive no matter the point of the game,” says Head Coach Anna Schwark. “Thus far, she has shown us that she can hold her own in the serve receive lineup which is her strongest asset, I think.”
Hamilton says she toured campus earlier this year and decided Lethbridge was the right fit. “I feel like everybody I've met so far is nice and easy to get along with,” she says. “It's a good community.”
While the team is shaping up to be young on the outsides, Kodiaks coaches are confident they have what it takes to get the job done, adding Hamilton is in a good position to compete for court time in her first season.
“Jorja hopefully will be around for the duration of her college career,” says Schwark. “I see her as a hard worker, someone who is eager to learn and just has fun doing it, so I am looking forward to seeing her confidence grow through this process.”
Hamilton says she is looking forward to starting the season with her new team and has enrolled in the polytechnic’s General Arts and Science – Health Sciences program.
The Kodiaks will host Concordia University of Edmonton in their first regular season game at 6 p.m. Oct. 18.
