Kodiaks women’s basketball adds accomplished point guard Maia Rossworm

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women's basketball team has added a skilled point guard for the upcoming season with the commitment of Maia Rossworm.
From Worsley, Alta., Rossworm is set to join the Kodiaks this fall while beginning her post-secondary studies in the General Arts and Science program. Rossworm enjoyed a successful high school career with Emmanuel Christian School, earning 2A Player of the Year during her Grade 11 season. She also helped lead her team to a zone and provincial championship win.
For Rossworm, the decision to join the Kodiaks was influenced by the program's strong reputation and the connections she had seen former Emmanuel Christian athletes build at Lethbridge Polytechnic.
"A lot of alumni from our school come here, so I thought it's just a really good sports program to be part of," she says.
Rossworm's recruiting process was unique, as an ACL injury prevented her from playing in her Grade 12 season. Despite that setback, Kodiaks head coach Deanna Simpson had already identified Rossworm as a player who could make an impact at the collegiate level after watching her compete throughout her junior year.
"Maia is a point guard who handles the ball well and makes good decisions under pressure," Simpson says. “We expect she’s the type of person who is going to put everything she has into contributing to the team.”
Simpson adds Rossworm's experience with the Emmanuel Christian program gives her a strong foundation as she transitions to the Kodiaks.
"We've recruited heavily from Emmanuel Christian over the last few years, and we know the type of players and people that come out of that program," says Simpson. "Maia understands the game, what's required of a point guard, and she has the potential to become a long-term contributor for us."
While Rossworm is still recovering from her ACL injury, she says she looks forward to returning to the court.
"I'm excited to be playing again and being on the floor," says Rossworm. "I'm looking forward to meeting new people and being part of the team."
Rossworm also thanked her coaches, Mike and Emily Greeno, for their support throughout her basketball journey.
