The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks men's basketball team has added experience and versatility to its lineup with the commitment of transfer student-athlete Cache Perrett for the upcoming season.
Growing up in Okotoks, Alta., Perrett graduated from Foothills Composite High School and competed with Foundations Youth Basketball during his development. He joins the Kodiaks after spending the 2025-26 season with the St. Mary's University Lightning and will begin studies in the General Arts and Science program this fall.
Perrett says his interest in joining the Kodiaks grew after competing against the program during his first ACAC season.
"Lethbridge always works hard, and in southern Alberta basketball there are always fans and strong competition," says Perrett. "I really like the playing style that the Kodiaks have. They like to push the ball, shoot the ball and play that gritty basketball that I really like."
Kodiaks head coach Ryan Heggie says Perrett left a strong impression during the recruiting process with his ability to impact the game in multiple ways.
"Cache has versatility to his game and can play both guard and forward," says Heggie. "I like that he doesn't settle for the easy. He's willing to compete on both ends of the floor, and I really like the way he attacks the basket."
Perrett first connected with the Kodiaks after reaching out to the coaching staff following his first ACAC season. He was invited to some scrimmages and the Kodiaks Identification Camp.
Heggie says Perrett's passion for basketball and outgoing personality made him a natural fit within the program.
"When Cache walks into the gym, you can tell he loves basketball," says Heggie. "He's confident in his abilities, competes hard and brings great energy to the group."
Perrett says he is excited to compete alongside familiar faces and continue his basketball journey in southern Alberta.
"I'm looking forward to winning games and having fun playing basketball with all my friends," he says.
Perrett also played high school basketball alongside Nash Byam and Van Kerrison, two other recent Kodiaks signees. That existing chemistry should help ease the group's transition to the collegiate level.
He joins a Kodiaks program coming off an ACAC silver-medal finish and a fifth-place finish at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championship tournament in Nanaimo, B.C.
Perrett thanks his parents and brothers for their continued support throughout his basketball career.
