The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks fall sports teams are looking to hit their stride during a key weekend of competition. The soccer teams reach the halfway point of their season and will begin rematches against familiar opponents. The cross-country squads will compete in their final Grand Prix meet before the championships.
Kodiaks soccer is back on the road Saturday to face the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens followed by a matchup with the Olds College Broncos on Sunday.
Also on Saturday, the Kodiaks cross-country team travels to Camrose for the fourth Running Room Grand Prix hosted by the University of Alberta – Augustana.

The Kodiaks women’s soccer team is preparing for some solid competition this weekend as they take on the Red Deer Queens followed by the Olds College Broncos. The Kodiaks have picked up key players since they last met, including the team’s leading goal scorer Kenley Matishak (third year, Practical Nurse, Calgary), who was named Kodiaks Athlete of the Week. On the other end of the field, the team will rely heavily on Kodiaks Athlete of the Month, Kiara Jankowiak (third year, General Arts and Science, Lethbridge) to keep them in the games with key saves.

The Kodiaks men’s soccer team has a big weekend ahead as they battle with Ambrose University in middle-of-the-pack standings. In order for the team to come out on top, they will need more offensive momentum against Red Deer and Olds. The Kodiaks will look to their leader in points, Alex Moroszczuk (second year, Electrician Apprenticeship, Edmonton), to create scoring opportunities for the team. On the defensive side, Cristobal Jacob Pares (first year, Civil Engineering Technology, Nelson, B.C.) has had a solid week earning Kodiaks Athlete of the Week and an Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Player of the Match for his role in breaking up attacks in the midfield.

The Kodiaks cross-country teams have one last chance to test out new patterns as they compete in their final Grand Prix of the season. The teams last competed at home, where the men’s team placed second and the women’s team placed fourth. Kodiaks Athlete of the Month Ethan Grasmeyer (third year, Conservation Enforcement – Bachelor of Applied Science, Smithers, B.C.) will be looked upon to lead the men’s team. For the women’s team, Katrina Michel (third year, Bachelor of Nursing, Okotoks) stepped into a leadership role for her team during the last meet, finishing eighth with a time of 28:41.
