Heggie named Steel & Vines Kodiaks Coach of the Month for March!

Steel & Vines is proud to sponsor the Kodiaks Coach of the Month award. Congrats to Ryan Heggie on his March selection.

The Kodiaks Coach of the Month Award recognizes a coach who makes a positive impact on their team and the Kodiaks program. This award honours coaches who demonstrate leadership, dedication, and excellence in any aspect of coaching, whether through athletic success, academic support, character building, or community involvement.

Heggie is the head coach of the Kodiaks men’s basketball program. Over the past month, he guided his team through the post-season pulling off upsets and medals against some of the top teams in the country. At the ACAC Conference Championships, the Kodiaks delivered one of their most impressive showings of the year, upsetting the No. 1 ranked team in the North and host school. Their run earned them a silver medal and secured a berth at the national championship. Two Kodiaks were also recognized for their outstanding play, earning Tournament All-Star selections. At nationals, the team continued to compete at a high level, picking up a win and ultimately closing out their season as highest placed ACAC team in the country. 

While this month showcased the team’s peak performance, it also highlighted Heggie’s impact as a coach. It is rare for a roster made up primarily of first- and second-year players, many of whom came together for the first time this fall, to achieve this level of success so quickly. Their progress is a testament to his ability to develop both individual players and team cohesion, preparing them to compete against the best in the country in a short period of time.
