May 8, 2023 – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women's volleyball team continues to grow its program for the upcoming season by signing Brooke Beste.
Beste is an outside hitter from Catholic Central High School who is currently playing for the Panthers Volleyball Club near Coaldale. She plans to study in the college’s Therapeutic Recreation – Gerontology program, and she is expected to bring strength and skills to the Kodiaks next season.
“Brooke understands how to use her toolbelt and make opponents really work hard on defence when she is attacking,” says head coach Anna Schwark. “This has been a real strength of hers for a few years now, and that’s a big reason why we decided she was an athlete we wanted to start recruiting.”
The Kodiaks women’s volleyball program is looking to continue its success after finishing fourth last season in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championships – the highest in program history.
Level-headedness and consistency are two key elements to Beste’s game, Schwark says, adding that she believes both will be assets for the team’s training in the upcoming season.
Beste credits her Gilbert Paterson Middle School coach Danny Lam with helping her achieve success on the court, explaining “he taught me how to become a mentally strong individual.”
The Kodiaks coaching staff has been eager to sign Beste, Schwark says. They believe players like Beste can have a huge effect on a team because of their genuine love of sport and willingness to embrace the team's culture.
Beste wearing the blue and white and playing in Val Matteotti Gymnasium will be a dream come true for her. “Ever since I was a little girl, I used to watch the Kodiaks play and always dreamed of being on the court with them,” she says. “So now I can pursue that dream and play with them.”
Kodiaks coaches actively recruit high school athletes around Alberta and neighboring provinces. If one of our coaches hasn’t spoken to you yet, don’t worry. Simply fill out the form (https://gokodiaks.ca/recruitment) and they would be pleased to learn more about you.
