Kodiaks men’s volleyball adds talented Barrhead setter to team

July 31, 2023 – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team is thrilled to announce the addition of Barrhead product Nate Callihoo to the roster for the 2023-24 season. Callihoo recently played with Team Alberta at the North American Indigenous Games in Halifax, helping to bring home the gold medal.
Callihoo, a 6’2 setter, is expected to bring a keen sense of the game to the Kodiaks, after a high school career that included winning the 3A provincial championships and a successful U18 club season with the Nooks Volleyball Club.
“Nate is a great thinker of the game,” says head coach Greg Gibos. “He’s been a proven winner across all of his competition, and we know he’s going to take this intensity to practice every day.”
Callihoo joins fellow Barrhead athlete Nolan Moes and credits his coaches for pushing him. “I’ve really been blessed to have some amazing coaches over my career,” he says, “and I know they’ve laid the foundation for me becoming a successful post-secondary athlete.”
Callihoo plans to start off in the Agriculture Sciences diploma program at Lethbridge College, and looks forward to the hands-on experience as well as the change to earn a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from Lethbridge College.
Gibos says Callihoo is another young athlete with a great ability to lead and connect with teammates, and that he exemplifies the qualities sought after by the Kodiaks. “He’s determined, passionate, and driven, and he certainly fits the bill for what the team looks for in a player,” Gibos adds.
Callihoo is looking forward to joining the well-respected men’s team.
“Lethbridge for me has always felt like a family,” says Callihoo. “We’ve had a lot of athletes from Barrhead join the Kodiaks, and they always mention how awesome the culture is here. There’s certainly a history of excellence, and this is what makes me want to win a championship with this program.”
Gibos says he can’t wait to see how Callihoo’s skills, attitude and appreciate for his teammates adds to team. “We’re fortunate he’s decided to join us in Lethbridge,” he adds, “and I can’t wait to see how Nate continues to develop our program and culture here at Lethbridge College.”
