Women's Soccer Split the weekend

The Kodiak Women's soccer split on the week-end, losing 3-0 to SAIT Saturday but taking Olds at home Sunday 3-1.  In Calgary Saturday it was all over in the first 12 minutes as the Trojans struck for  two quick goals in the first three minutes and added another on a penalty kick in the 12th minute.  The back row led by Sarah De Groot, Emily Godfrey and Aimee Santangelo were key players for the Kodiaks in the second half as they played to a scoreless draw for the final 78 minutes.  Sunday Olds scored at the midpoint of the first half and were up 1-0 at halftime.  The Kodiaks scored three in the second half, with Sarah Orban opening the Kodiak scoring at the midpoint before Hattie Kanyo scored the winner on a sliding kick to beat the Olds keeper with 10 minutes left to play. Taylor Ripien closed the scoring in the final three minutes with her team leading 5th goal of the season, and her work in central midfield gave the Kodiaks several opportunities to win the game.  Victoria Poitras played a solid consistent game on defense in shutting down Olds in the second half.  With one game left in the 2013 Soccer schedule things are complicated for the Kodiak Women's soccer team.  Sitting in a second place tie with Red Deer Queens the Kodiaks need help from Red Deer and Lakeland against SAIT in order to clinch a play-off spot.
