Women's Soccer Season Recap
Kodiak Women’s Soccer
Any other year the Kodiak women’s soccer team would have made the playoffs. With 15 points and a 4-3-3 record this season the Kodiak women’s soccer team had one of their best seasons in recent years. The playoff race came down to the last day of play, ending with the Kodiaks in 4th place, narrowly eliminated from the ACAC playoffs. The Kodiaks were the only team to take points off South Division Champions Medicine Hat Rattlers, including an away win in Medicine Hat.
The Kodiaks had only 4 returning players this year, but they all played an important part in the team’s success. Aimee Santangelo, Rachel Reindeau and Sarah De Groot played an important part in the Kodiaks defence, while Taylor Thygesen scored game winning goals in 3 of the 4 Kodiak victories. The Kodiaks also added some additional post-secondary soccer experience with the additions of Jenna Winkler, Nicole Frederickson and Taylor Rypien, as well from Kodiak cross country runners Diane Jmaeff and Hattie Kanyo. New recruits Victoria Poitras, Mikayla Luettecke, Sarah Orban, Emily Godfrey, and Blaire Harvie logged major minutes for the Kodiaks during their ACAC campaign. With a large part of the starting line-up returning next year the Kodiaks are excited to improve in their 2014 ACAC campaign.
For her efforts in midfield during the season Taylor Rypien was awarded a place on the ACAC Women’s Soccer South All-Conference Team. As well, Head coach Mike Racz was awarded the ACAC women’s Soccer South Division Coach of the Year.
