West, Jans named Kodiaks athletes of the week
March 8, 2017 - After huge performances during championship weekend, the Kodiaks are proud to announce Sunder West and Dayton Jans as the latest Kodiaks athletes of the week!
Sunder took her game to a new level during the RE/MAX 2017 ACAC Women's Basketball Championships last weekend, helping the Kodiaks win their second conference championship in three years.
West, a third-year office admin/general studies student athlete, started the tournament by being named to the ACAC First All-Conference team at the ACAC awards banquet. She then tore it up on the court, dropping 62 points in three games in helping the Kodiaks win the ACAC title. Sunder had many memorable moments, including dropping 13 3-pointers and hitting an unbelievable near half-court buzzer beater in the tournament opener against Lakelake.
Sunder was named Tournament MVP and will be a key for the Kodiaks as they hunt for a national title starting next Thursday at the CCAA National Championships in Edmonton.
Dayton helped lead the Kodiaks Indoor Track team to a successful showing at the 2017 ACAC Indoor Track Championships, which were hosted by the Kodiaks at the 1st Choice Savings Centre last weekend.
Jans, a first year multimedia production student athlete, took home three medals at the event, including helping the Kodiaks claim an exhilarating gold in the 4x400m relay, where he ran the final leg and helped the team push past a competitive entry from SAIT.
He also finished with a silver in the 600m and bronze in the 300m earlier in the meet. His impressive performance contributed to the Kodiaks men winning a team bronze medal.
Way to go Sunder and Dayton!
