Lightning shut down in Men's Basketball Wins over the weekend
The Men’s Basketball started out Friday in Calgary on fire as they jumped out to a 25-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. But St Mary’s Lightning were not to be denied and fought back to make it a 40-29 lead for Lethbridge at half time. St. Mary’s cut into the lead further at the end of three and trailed 56-52 with only 10 minutes remaining. Lethbridge came away with a very hard fought 81-70 victory at the end of 40 minutes as Dom Coward led the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Maughan scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half as he helped carry the team to the win. Saturday back home the Kodiaks completed the sweep with another win, this time 94-70. But the score didn’t indicate the play as once again the Lightning refused to give up. Travis Butt, the third year Lundbreck native led the Kodiaks in scoring with 18 points. Dom Coward had his usual double double clicking for 16 points and another 18 rebounds. Chris Maughan and Mo Gunderson rounded out the Kodiaks in double figures scoring as they put in 15 and 10 points respectively. The Kodiaks host Olds Broncos at 8:00 PM Friday night before visiting Olds Saturday for another 8:00 PM tilt. Friday night is “Intercultural Evening” with halftime entertainment by the FNMI and Intercultural students. The team remains ranked 14th in the nation and continues to improve as play-offs loom on the horizon.
