Cross Country

Women’s – with an amazing performance at National Championships this past weekend at SAIT, the Kodiaks women ran the race of their year & stole the Bronze medal from the host school SAIT by one point in the team standings! This is the women’s first national team medal in since 2004! Rachel McKenzie lead the way for the Kodiaks and received All Canadian First team Honors for her race. Sarah Makowsky & Mikaela York also finished in the Top 16 and were named to the All Canadian Second team for their efforts. A very solid year and only a sign of things to come for a team returning a majority of its core next year. Congratulations Kodiaks Women!!!!

Men’s – Kodiaks men’s team finished as the “best out of the west” placing 5th overall as a team at the national championships. The top 4 teams came out of the east at this years race. Individually, Edwin Kaitiany ran a solid race and had the lead for 98% of it before being passed with approximately 20-25 metres of the race remaining. Edwin was running with a heavy heart after learning of the loss of a family member the day prior to the race. He earned the silver medal and a spot on the All Canadian First team for his efforts and represented the Kodiaks at the highest level. Congratulations goes out to the entire men’s team as they were very competitive and left it all on the course in their efforts to earn a CCAA medal for the program and the college.

That brings the end to this years Cross Country season and the Kodiaks did an outstanding job of representing the College and themselves for the 2014 season. Next year looks very promising!
