Kodiaks Weekend Update Jan. 26

Women's Volleyball

This past weekend our Kodiaks faced off against the Medicine Hat Rattlers. They were in Medicine Hat on Friday night and lost the match to the Rattlers in three tight sets. Saturday night shows a different story, however, as our Kodiaks battled on their home court for five straight sets to win a close one against Medicine Hat. Maclean Gilchrist kept many plays alive as she dug up 23 balls from the opposing team. Brooke French was on the prowl with 22 kills in the game, and Haley Jensen set up her teammates for a total of 41 kills during the match.

Our Kodiaks were head to head with Rattlers for the majority of the match, but lost in four sets. Kai Hesthammer and Hakon Ostrem had 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Shane Barr had 36 assists. Saturday night our men came out strong as they played again-this time in their own gym. The game was tight and unfortunately our men lost in five hard-fought sets. Kai Hesthammer led the team with 27 kills. Marcus Biesheuvel had 46 assists.

Men's Basketball

Friday night was a nail-biter as our Kodiaks played the SAIT Trojans in front of a large home crowd. It looked like they were headed to overtime when a last second foul put Chris Maughan on the foul line. With the weight of the game on his shoulders, Maughan sunk his foul shot to put the Kodiaks up by one and give them the win 83-82. Will Hickey had 20 points and 16 rebounds on the game. Saturday night in Calgary was another close battle between the two teams. However, our Kodiaks lost 74-79 to the Trojans.
