Kodiaks Weekend Update
Kodiaks Indoor Track Team
The Kodiaks XC/Track squad kicked off the indoor season this past weekend at the Dino opener hosted by the University of Calgary.
The event started with a solid performance by rookies Carlos Mena and Jessica Wytrykusz. Both individuals faced tough competition as they ran to personal best performances in the 200 meter event. Rookies Sylvia Von Gunten and Manon Remy both competed in 800 meter event. Both Remy and Von Gunten put forth top performances for this early in the season. 2nd year Athlete Alex Andres won the Men’s 800 m in a blistering time of 2:00.38. Rookie Tyson Good Striker, also in the men’s 800 meter, ran a very tactical event and finished with a personal best performance. Rachel McKenzie, another 2nd year athlete, competed in the 3000m event and impressed with a personal best time and second place finish. The meet concluded with the relay events. The Kodiaks women 4x200 meter team finished the 4 lap event in 2:06 and took 1st place in the women’s open category.
Kodiaks Women’s Basketball
The Kodiaks Women’s basketball team travelled to Twin Falls, Idaho last week to play in the College of Southern Idaho’s, Fisher Tournament. They faced the host team on Friday to a crowd of over 2000 people and came away with a 97-96 win in overtime. It was an exciting evening for the ladies, and their best competition to date. Saturday saw the team playing USU Eastern. Again it was a close game and hard fought by the Kodiaks, who have been undefeated in their regular season. The ladies had to suffer an 80-85 loss to USU Eastern, difficult to swallow after such a great effort by the team. The team will begin their second half of the season on January 9th and 10th when they host Red Deer.
Kodiaks Warm Paws
This is the final week for collecting donations for the Kodiaks Warm Paws campaign. Please bring any items that you wish to donate to one of the many drop off locations on campus by Friday. We will be presenting the donations at 11:30 am Monday December 15 to the recipients. Staff and faculty are invited to gather around the Christmas tree in centre core at this time. Thank you, once again for supporting the Kodiaks student athletes and our community.
