Kodiaks Weekend Update - Dec 1

Kodiaks Weekend Update (November 28-29, 2014)

What a great weekend our teams had!!

Women’s Volleyball:

Kodiaks Women's Volleyball team had their best weekend this season posting wins over Ambrose, 3-1 on the road Friday night and followed that up with a sweep 3-0 at home Saturday. The Kodiaks were led by Lethbridge native, Brooke French.  French, who has been mainly a setter her entire career, has had to play some left-side this year.  Needless to say, the transformation is working as Brooke led her team both nights in kills.  Friday night she posted a career high of 18 and followed that up with 9 on Saturday. She also had 16 digs, 4 Aces and 3 solo blocks.  Lindsay Glas continues to have a strong rookie campaign recording 14 kills, 3 aces and 15 digs over the weekend.  It was a nice way to finish the semester by playing our best matches thus far.

Men’s Volleyball:

MVB had a good weekend against Ambrose University.  Having to work through a tough Lions defense and some struggles on our own side of the court, the Kodiaks managed to scrape together a 3-2 win on Friday night.  Saturday was a home match that saw the Kodiaks play a much cleaner game, and come away with a 3-0 win.  The men enter the second half of the season ranked 4th in the ACAC south division.

Women’s Basketball:

The Kodiaks women’s basketball team has finished off the first half of the season undefeated.  Recording a 73-51 win in Friday’s game against olds, the women set the pace for the last weekend of 2014 action.  Emma Lowry led the team in points with 23 points and 4 rebounds. Contributing to the win was Ali Cameron (14 points 2 rebounds), Jordyn Kirk (10 points 7 rebounds) and Deanna Dotts (8 points and 6 rebounds).  In Saturdays 71-40 win, Ali Cameron was the leader for the Kodiaks recoding 27 points and 4 rebounds.  Jordyn Kirk contributed with 9 points and 5 rebounds and Deanna Dotts had 8 points and 6 rebounds.  The women are heading to Idaho this weekend for some exhibition games.  They enter the second half of the season first in the ACAC south division and ranked third overall in the CCAA.  We are all looking forward to what these women are capable of achieving in the second half.

Men’s Basketball:

Friday night in Olds the men’s team managed to come off with an 88-78 win.  Chris Maughan played like a beast recording 28 points and 9 rebounds.  Contributing to this was Dathon Spencer (18 points 6 rebounds), Colt Murray (11 points 5 rebounds), and Chaz Johnson (16 points 6 Assists).  On Saturday the Kodiaks were not matching Olds intensity or execution, trailing 42/31 at the half.  The men cut the lead to 8 after the third and the fourth was all Kodiaks, as they captured the 87-82 win.  Dathon Spencer recorded 12 pts and 13 rebounds, Chris Maughan 16 pts and 8 rebounds, Travis Butt was named the ACAC Player of the Game with 22 points & Colt Murray had 11 points and 6 rebounds.  Grady Taylor came off the bench for 6 points and 4 rebounds and some inspirational halftime words (just what the team needed to hear).  The men finished the first half of the season 10/2 at the top of the ACAC south division, ranked 6th in Canada overall.
