Former Foremost Star now a Kodiak
Lisa Ivanics spent the better part of the last two seasons toiling for the Red Deer Queens Basketball team in the ACAC.
She was leading the ACAC South Division in scoring when she went down with an ankle injury last Fall and never returned to the court. So, when she called Lethbridge College in early March it came as a pleasant addition to an already promising recruiting season. “I was actually in the gym in Southern Idaho scouting when she phoned me,” recalled Kodiak head coach Avery Harrison, “I could not even hear who it was or what they wanted, so she had to call me back. I'm glad she did! She has so much talent and is a natural scorer that makes our backcourt incredibly explosive.”
That may be an understatement. In her final year with Foremost, Ivanics was named Alberta High School 1A Player of the Year and lead her team to a third place finish at Provincials. “I just wanted to be closer to home and my family, so it was an easy fit,” said Ivanics of her move to the Kodiaks. “I am excited to get going with the team now, and trying to stay healthy this coming season.”
Harrison echoed Ivanics sentiment, “I want to get going too, but there are a few more pieces to put into the puzzle before we will be ready.”
Lethbridge College will be hosting the CCAA Women's Basketball National Championships next March.
