4th Annual Lethbridge College Kodiaks Warm Paws Campaign

This year marks the 4th Annual Lethbridge College Kodiaks Warm Paws campaign and our Kodiaks are in pursuit of NEW socks, mitts, gloves and other outerwear to help people in need stay warm this winter.

Lethbridge and area has supported the Kodiaks community in many ways and through this initiative they’ve come to realize that it’s time to give some of that support back.

The Kodiaks will be collecting winter outerwear items through November 28. All of the donated items will be given to people in need through Wood’s Homes, Streets Alive Mission, the YWCA, Lethbridge Emergency Shelter and Resource Centre, Hands-On Early Learning Center (The Lethbridge College daycare on campus), as well as The Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Lethbridge.

This season is going to be especially difficult as many families have experienced job loss and are not only finding it difficult to make ends meet but have decided to return to school which is an added financial burden. Families have had to make some make hard choices and our student-athletes want to advocate for these simple but necessary items to give those families some breathing room.

Donation sites can be found on campus at these locations until November 28, 2016.

According to a publication from Vibrant Lethbridge, Community and Social Development, City of Lethbridge, February 2015, StatsCan 2011 and local data sources report that:

Living with a low-income is the reality for:

  • 12.0% of the total population
  • 1 in 5 children; the highest child poverty rate in Alberta
  • 31.7% of single-parent families (calculated for Lethbridge Region)
  • 24.5% of the total urban Aboriginal population

We've heard what we have to do. We've seen what we need to do. Now is the time to show that together we can make a difference for those in need!
